Blackout shall mean interruption of electricity generation, transmission, distribution and consumption processes, when operation of the power system or a part thereof is terminated. [1]

Blackout ist ein kompletter Ausfall der Stromversorgung in Folge von Schäden oder Ausfällen in einem Kraftwerk, an Stromleitungen oder anderen Teilen des Verteilungssystems, verursacht durch einen Kurzschluss, Betriebsmittelausfall, Überlastung des Übertragungs- und Verteilungssystems usw. Andere Bezeichnungen für Blackout sind Stromausfall oder Netzausfall [10]
