European Definition

Droughts refer to precipitation shortfalls stretching over a prolonged period of time which may occur across all climates (different to aridity). [1]


International definitions

WHO

Droughts are natural events and happen when a period of low rainfall leads to a shortage of water. [2]

National Definitions

Tonga

Drought: The result of a lack of rain over an extended period of time. [3]
